About Ross:
Dr. Ross Karlan is a curator, scholar, educator, and advisor specializing in the art of the Spanish and Portuguese speaking worlds.
Ross completed his BA at the University of Pennsylvania in 2014 and his PhD at Georgetown University in 2020 in Spanish and Portuguese Cultural Studies. There, much of his research examined the period of Portuguese imperial expansion and questions of transatlanticism, race, and representation of emotion. Ross was also a postdoctoral researcher at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and has over seven years of classroom experience, in addition to multiple curatorial and writing projects ranging on topics from rare books and manuscripts to contemporary Latin American art. Currently, Ross serves as Director of Art Muse LA and Miami, organizing educational art excursions and experiences in museums, galleries, and other arts spaces. He is one of the Curators in Residence at Laundromat Art Space, and Associate for Special Programs at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. As an independent curator he has presented recent exhibitions at Pan American Art Projects, Laundromat Art Space, Mahara+Co. Gallery, and has forthcoming exhibitions at the Fundación Pablo Atchugarry and the Boca Raton Museum of Art.
